Forever Painting: Lauralee Pope at CalArts

Interested to know what the kids at CalArts are up to these days?  Second year graduate student Lauralee Pope had her MFA show up this week and the title, Forever Painting, intrigued us enough to make the drive out to campus to see it.  There are some images from the show below and you can check out more of Pope's work, as well as the work of her classmates, April 21 from 1-6pm during CalArts Open Studios.

An amazing body of work, and when one realizes that they are all in relation to the architectural space at CalArts, and THEN to understand that all the titles are palindromes- ""Top Spot", "Now I Won"-which was painted from the reverse side-"Mega Gem", "O Stone, Be Not So", "Draw Nine Men Inward", "Noon", "Party Booby Trap (1), "Party Booby Trap(11), "Rotator", "Dr. Awkward", "I Did Did I"-one can read the titles from front to back, and back to front, as well as reading the work from inside out. Pope speaks an eloquent language through art.

Thanks for the insight into Lauralee's show. I thought I noticed some visual cues pointing to the fact that the the work was interacting with the gallery architecture. Nice to have that confirmed.
